MY LABOR EXPERIENCE

Hi Guys so im really excited to share my experience with you. I know what its like to have so many questions and you just cannot find any answers. I use to search the web for other peoples birth stories. I tried to get enough information as possible. I only ever found one good write up i will post the link below. I hope my experience is super helpful to you guys!

So i had my baby on the 02/02/2018 (Friday) but it all started the Wednesday before.
So on Wednesday i got a "show" for those of you'll who are wondering what that is,
its your mucus plug.It is just Mucus in your cervix preventing bacteria from getting to your baby.
It like a white discharge with some blood in it, it sometimes doesn't come out all at once so you can see this more than once. Its one of the first signs of labor.

It was Thursday night at about 10pm i started to get contractions, we were still up sitting in the lounge. (I didn't know what contractions felt like at the time i just knew i was getting pains.) From what i googled they say it feels like a lower back pain that wraps around your tummy. My experience was different, it felt like pressure on my tummy on and off. So it was steady pains coming and going then i told your husband and we didn't know whether we should go to hospital. I still weren't sure if it was really labor, again cause i googled what it would feel like. I timed the feeling i was having and they were like 3min, 4min, 2 min they were consistent at all.

I tried to sleep at around 11 but i couldn't cause of the contractions, i sat up in bed then my husband started getting ready just in case we had to rush to hospital. But the pain wasn't too bad so i told him he should just sleep and if it gets worse i would tell him as he needed to go to work in the morning.
I eventually somehow managed to go to bed about 2AM. Then that morning i still had contractions so i told my husband to take me to my mothers house cause i had a gynea appointment that day and i asked my mother to take me at 11:45 . So when i got to my mum and she saw me she said you are definitely in labor! She said im not taking you to the gynea il take you to hospital and if you not in labor il take you to your appointment.

I thought i was ok it didn't feel so bad. When we got to the hospital they placed 2 monitors on my belly, one was to hear the baby's heart beat and the second one was to  measure my contractions The contraction monitor started printing out my contractions as it happens and they told me i was definitely having strong contractions! You can imagine my surprise! It was finally happening the wait was over!
So they then checked to see if i was dilated and i hadn't yet dilated. The nurse asked for the name of my gynea who would deliver my baby. they called him to let him know i was in labor, he said he will come when I've dilated . They then asked me to come in again after an hour so i went to reception booked in and we went to have some breakfast and sat in the waiting room till it was time to go back in.
They checked me again i still weren't dilated, they asked me if i wanted to take an injection to like relax me abit and they said it wont take the pain anyway but it will make be like tired so i would have to lay down if they give it to me. So after awhile when the pain started getting worse i went and got the injection (It weren't a epidural) it makes you very sleepy thou.

I changed into my hospital gown put on my maternity underwear and pad and i went straight to sleep! yes i napped i was so tired. They came in and woke me up to check if iv'e dilated and still nothing! So i went back to sleep and as i changed sides, my water broke! It was so strange!
It is like a litre of water, i might be exaggerating but it sure looked that way. I had to call the nurse and she helped me change, the nurses were very excited! cause they has no other deliveries that day. They said the baby will come soon.
I went and slept, the nurse came in again and checked to see if i had dilated yet. They said to me you are 9cm dilated you have to start pushing, i thought they were not being serious. I was like really? she said yes you have to start pushing i was in panic mode! they went and called my husband who was still at work, i had reassured him that the baby will only come later and labor can take hours from what i read online! He had to rush to the hospital straight from work i already started pushing, my gynea wasn't there yet cause it happened that fast! from not being dilated to being 9 cm dilated! I was in the delivery room with the two nurses who started preparing the room around me and getting everything together, they sat down next to me held my had and encouraged me to push when i felt contractions, i was terrified i must admit! I had no epidural and i asked for one and they told me it was too late now. I remember hearing the rain outside. They gave me oxygen which didn't help at all if any thing it added more stress cause it never do anything. My husband made it just in time! He had left the car idling in the drop off zone in front of the hospital, i remember hearing him banging on the door and he rushed in, i was on my last two or three pushes and out he came! It all happened so fast my husband was still in work clothing. UA-139923637-1

My best advice to anyone in labor would be, to push your baby out as soon as you can! cause once your baby is out, the pain disappears!

If any of you are wondering what labor feels like it just an intense period pain/ pressure on your tummy. I never feel the baby actually coming out. I only  felt when the baby was crowning they call it the ring of fire and it feels like you constipated. Once you push through that its all over!

They handed my baby to me, while my gynea gave me pain injections so he can stitch me.

When he was done they took the baby to go get cleaned up and check his weight and length.

I got to go and have a shower and then i went to my ward and they brought me supper and i had a nap before visiting hours. My Gynecologist came to see me the next day and the pediatrician came to check my baby.

I know it sounds like i slept alot but it was that tiring! you are completely exhausted! I remember my eyes opening and closing during labor, i felt like i was missing parts cause i felt like i don't
know when my eyes closed. I was so tired from being in labor and because of the injection they gave me.
I made my baby sleep in the nursery cause i could barely carry my baby. I felt it was safer and i got a good nights sleep.

I hope you found my experience useful if you have any questions about my delivery im happy to answer them.
For me i wanted my experience to be positive i just focused on how excited i was to meet my baby
He was truly worth the wait!

He was 3.1kgs and 47cm in length and so cute!
